How to Have a Front Yard the Neighbors will Envy

The front of your home is the first impression that someone will have of your home, and you know what they say about first impressions. What’s more is that since you take pride in being a homeowner, it’s only natural to want to have your home looking its finest, whether you’re trying to impress people or not. This post will take a look at how to make everyone in your neighborhood envious of your front yard.

How to Have a Front Yard the Neighbors will Envy

Tidy, Prune and Trim: The first step to having a great front yard is ensuring that you’re taking proper care of the plants, trees and flowers that you already have planted in it. So get out the hedge trimmer and pruning scissors at the start of spring and every few months until winter to make sure that everything is looking neat. Oh, and don’t forget to weed your flower beds.

Create an Inviting Front Path: One feature that can really take your front yard to a whole new level is creating an inviting front walk path to your door. This can be something as simple as planting flowers, shrubs or placing solar lights along an existing path to something more advanced, like creating a brick paver path. If you go the latter route, just be sure that you put down a base of crushed stone to support the pavers and facilitate proper drainage.

Tend to Your Lawn: You could have the most beautiful landscaping in the world in your front yard, but if your lawn is browning and worn, it can affect one’s overall impression. So not only do we recommend putting down fertilizer at least twice a year, but we also recommend regularly aerating your lawn to ensure its roots are getting enough oxygen and clearing out potentially damaging thatch to encourage it to grow more lushly. Your lawn should also be getting about one inch of water per week and when you cut it, don’t take more than one-third of its length off the top. Last but not least, don’t forget to periodically edge your lawn to give it that fresh look.

Replace and Replenish: Do you have dying plants in your yard? Is grass not growing in a certain area? These can be big killers to your home’s curb appeal, as these things often stand out and are among the first things that someone looking at your home will spot. On that note, be sure to remove and replace as necessary.

Pest Containment: The last thing you want are bugs eating up your flowers, so plan to protect your plants and flowers from animals and bugs accordingly. Be sure to talk to your landscaper about the best and environmentally safe ways of doing so.
